Congratulations to Tonality on a successful grant application!
The following is their proposal:
Tonality is an LA-based choral ensemble founded in 2016 with the intention to connect people through song. Diverse in background, age, and profession, members gather for unique performances throughout the year in a variety of venues to provide access to arts and culture to people of all walks of life. Established with the idea that we are all one through our shared humanity, Tonality performs a variety of music in a wide range of languages and musical styles. The music is presented as an effort to unify our community through social outreach and serve as a beacon of peace and understanding.
Tonality's concerts delve into pertinent societal issues through the choices of music and text. "Most of our compositions are commissions of living composers, with emphasis on women and composers of color. Concerts include personal stories from performers and people in the community to bring personal touches to the issues.
Our 2017-2018 season featured concerts with topics such as immigration, homelessness, gun violence, and women's issues. All concerts were in the Los Angeles area and brought high attendance numbers and audience participation, including with organizations such as Me Too International and The Brady Campaign, both of whom were present at our "Do You Hear Her" and "Put Your Guns Down" concerts, respectively. Our upcoming album, "Sing About It," will feature selections from our previous seasons. The album is set for recording Summer 2018.
Our 2018-2019 season, which kicks off in October, will feature themes such as mental illness and being an active participant in democracy.
Funding would go toward our 2018-2019 season consisting of three concerts. Topics to be addressed include homelessness, immigration, democracy in action, and mental illness. We are seeking grants to accommodate our performer, personnel, and marketing expenses around these events, as this year's venue provides more space for greater attendance.
We believe that our music can act as a catalyst for a more connected and empathetic community, and appreciate the opportunity to share our mission with you."
Integrity: Arts & Culture Association is honored to approve Tonality's funding request and we wish them the best in all of their future artistic endeavors!
